In zona se afla la mijloc de secom XIX, Posta Veche, sau Posta Romaneasca sau de cai. In jur de 1869-70 a fost deschisa Str. Mercur, initial intre Str. Poste Vecge(Str. Nicolae Golescu de astazi) si Str. Pitar Mos. Mai tarziu a fost prelungita pana in Str. Dionisie Lupu de astazi. Incepand cu anul 1921 a purtat si numele de Str. D.A. Sturza

In zilele regimului comunist, Strada Mercur a fost impartita intre St. Pictor Verona si St. Arthur Verona de astazi.
