Photographer: Eduard Pesky (or Pesky Ede) was a Hungarian painter and photographer (b.10.12.1835 Pest (or Codlea ?) – d.11.02.1909 Brașov); he was the son of the Pesky József (1795 - 1872) - church and portrait painter- and father of Pesky Vilma (1875, Vienna -?) painter and sculptor. He studied arts in Vienna. His photographic activity paralleled his work as a painter. His first photostudios were in Pest ( ca.1861-1863: “Pesky Ede” Régi posta utczá; ca.1863-865, “Pesky Ede & Gévay Béla” : Váczi utca 14 and Régi posta utca). The CDV’s from the early 60’s show that at the time he fully mastered the art. His photographic activity seemed to be subordinated to his contracts as a painter. During the time he had painted some churches in Hungary he probably discontinued his photographic business. He travelled a lot (as far as Constantinople). Sometime in the 70’s he opened a studio in Vienna –”Alsergrund (Rossau), Harmonie Gasse 6 nächst dem Orpheum”-). He worked for a while in Samuel Herter studio in Kronstadt (Brașov), then moved to Romania, in the late 1870’s. At first worked in Buzău with Karl Bömches, then opened a studio in Galați with a certain Madame Julie (was she Julie Herter, having already left Samuel Herter?)(Atelier artistique E.Pesky, M-e Julie et C-ie, Strada Domnească). Around 1881 he moved to Bucharest where, in 1882 he bought the studio of Andreas D.Reiser (Atelier fotografo-artistic /E.Pesky - pictor academic /Calea Victoriei 23). In the 1890’s he gave up the photographic business and worked mostly as a painter .
